Puglia…
The land of olive oil, good food, lush farmland & great people!
Puglia is the sun kissed southern region of the Italian peninsula. The region is draped with over 700km of coastline, so finding the ideal place to relax and let go will be as easy as watching the sunset while drinking an excellent glass of wine. Puglia’s history and architecture tell many tales of the past. From invasions and colonisations; Greeks, Romans, Turks, Saracens and the Spanish have all left their marks on this beautiful region. The simple yet stunning whitewashed limestone is used for masonry as well as for decoration.
The region is of course also well known for the trulli: small dwellings with conical roofs that look like something out of a fairy tale. The oldest trulli found at Alberobello date back to the 14th century and are today very popular by tourists and locals alike. It is here, that we find the magnificent Trullo Badessa, located on the outskirts of Alberobello, just a few minutes drive away from the city centre.
Puglia is not only rich in character and culture, but it also has a flourishing cuisine. In fact, a great number of traditional Italian dishes hail from this region. Deeply rooted in the tradition of the cucina povera, the cuisine is simple and the dishes allow the freshness of the local produce to speak for itself. The orecchiette pasta con cime di rapa, involtini di vitello, insalata di polpo, patate e pomodorini are some of the famous dishes the region is known for. Look up the recipies, they’re delicious!
Let yourself fall in love with Puglia, with its perfect weather, warm and welcoming people and delicious food and wine, it will be hard not to!
